Pardo d'oro Cineasti del presente – Premio Nescens: EL AUGE DEL HUMANO – Eduardo Williams
Concorso Cineasti del presente
How can the lives of young guys divided by the Ocean be connected? Eduardo Williams, Argentinian director whose short movies have been already awarded in the festivals circuit, has built in his first feature film El auge del humano a theory which gets shape, in an originality which is as well a re-thinking of filmmaking. The young director switches from a continent to the other portraying everyday gestures of young boys from Argentina, Mozambique and Philippines: his hand-camera follows them with the courage to mix fiction and documentary, using the visionary power of long shots. In this, through spaces, those boys become a sort of templates which seem to have lost their identities, eternally connected to a virtual reality, in which every substance is fulfilled. This is the magic in Williams’ cinema: to be able to carry in cinema the omnipresence of the web, without failing to the temptation to show the technology behind it, but transforming it in a new way to show us the world.
