A Three-Years-Long Edition
Open Doors is ready to live the 69th edition of the Festival del film Locarno with the strength of experience, driven by a wind full of news. Next to its... older brothers (Open Doors Screenings and Open Doors Hub), Open Doors Lab is a new platform born this year which was conceived and designed to train producers coming from developing countries from a cinematical point of view; young or experienced professionals who can take advantage of an intense journey which was imagined for them and built with them in the last three years.
Established with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Open Doors section aims to help and to highlight the filmmakers and the films of the South and the East of the world where independent cinema is fragile. In 2016, Open Doors is for the first time consecrated to the exploration of eight countries of South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Starting from this fourteenth edition, the discovery of this region will be divided (for the first time) over a three-years-long period, allowing to intensify the accompanying work of the professionals who are involved both in Locarno and in their country.
