Pardi on tour

Locarno goes on tour with 70 years of the Pardo d'oro, with 7 winners of the "Golden Leopard" award providing the opener for #Locarno70: Kubrick, Rossellini, Panahi, Tanner, Zanussi, Yong-Kyun Ba and Saverio Costanzo.

Piazza Grande

7 great movies, 7 iconic winners of the Pardo d'oro, each with its own soul – but all united by that spirit of discovery which first inspired the Festival from the outset and still guides its programming today. The movie series is the first of a raft of initiatives to celebrate Locarno's 70th birthday.

The #Locarno70 project gets under way with the traveling film season 70 Years of Golden Leopards. From February 2017 the 7 titles will be shown at premier theaters around Switzerland, including the Filmpodium in Zurich, the Kino REX in Bern, Les Cinémas du Grütli in Geneva, the Kino Orient in Baden, the screens of the Cinémathèque suisse in Lausanne and of the Cineclub della Svizzera italiana, and the Lux Arthouse Massagno

7 films, one for each decade, opening with a landmark of Neo-Realism, Roberto Rossellini’s Germany Year Zero (1948). The selection continues with Killer’s Kiss, the second film directed by undisputed master Stanley Kubrick, followed by a classic of new Swiss cinema, Charles, Dead or Alive, by Alain Tanner. Eastern European filmmaking is represented by Krzysztof Zanussi’s The Illumination, while the season shifts to the Orient with the Zen meditation of Why Has Bodhi-Dharma Left for the East? by Yong-Kyun Bae. The renaissance in Iranian cinema is marked by The Mirror by Jafar Panahi, and the final title in the series is Saverio Costanzo’s dramatic debut set in Palestine, Private.
