A unique experience in the contemporary film world

The Locarno Filmmakers Academy provides an opportunity for a group of the most promising directors on today’s filmmaking scene to meet with some of the greatest directors and biggest players in the global film industry. The innovative spirit of the Locarno Festival goes hand in hand with an extensive program of activities in tandem with Locarno Industry and the Critics Academy.

After a very tough selection process there are 19 invited participants from different countries around the globe, as diverse as  Egypt, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Turkey, Nepal and Switzerland. What they have in common, however, is the skill for making films with strong visual impact.

The young directors’ short films will be shown during the Locarno Festival at the 4 evening Academy Screenings, open to all festival-goers. The 11-day event will also host 6 directors from the prestigious Cannes Cinéfondation residency, one resident artist from the Swatch Peace Hotel and one from the pan-African Realness scriptwriters’ residency program.
