The program

In 2016, Open Doors started exploring 8 countries in South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Three main activties took place during the 71st Locarno Festival: Open Doors Hub, Open Doors Lab and Open Doors Screenings.

Open Doors Hub

The Open Doors Hub is an international coproduction platform for 8 selected projects from throughout the South Asian region.

Their six-day tailored made program alternates alternating pitching coaching, group discussions, one-to-one meetings and networking activities with Industry decision makers and Festival guests.

On the last day, a professional jury grants either development, production or post-production support to a few winning projects, the biggest award being the Open Doors Grant amounting to 50.000 CHF.

The selection

Open Doors Lab

The Open Doors Lab selects each year 8 producers / filmmakers-producers, who are invited to Locarno to attend a personalised program focused on the role of the creative producer, providing them with tools to best approach the project development stage and to work with international film professionals, while increasing their entrepreneurial skills.

Open Doors Palmarès

The Open Doors jury has awarded several prizes to projects and participants in the Open Doors Hub and Lab, to support their development, production and career.

Open Doors Screenings

From 1 to 11 August 2018, the non-competitive section Open Doors Screening offered a selection of shorts and feature-length films from the South Asian region to introduce its cinematographic landscape to the Festival public and professionals attending.
