An African Election

Switzerland, USA  ·  2010  ·  35 mm  ·  Color and Black and White  ·  89'  ·  o.v. English

Ghana is preparing for its presidential elections. This political contest is the point of departure of a documentary that explores the struggle and long journey towards democracy in this African country. Director Jarreth Merz had not returned to Ghana, where he spent his childhood, for 28 years. He wanted to use the elections as a background to a wider investigation that would cover his memories as well as Ghana’s current situation. An expedition that seeks to understand a country in which democracy has to fight to survive.
