A gangster forces a singer to seduce the son of a rich politician, as part of a plan to rob a nightclub. “I can’t say that I bask in the memory of it. I wanted to do a non-comedy picture – that was my only objective: my name was attached to broad comedy and I wanted to break the link. But I always put some comedy in it, even if it’s a tragedy” (McCarey).
