American Splendor

USA  ·  2003  ·  35 mm  ·  Color  ·  101'  ·  o.v. English

Harvey Pekar, a grouchy file clerk working in a Cleveland hospital, spends his dull life looking for old books and records that can no longer be found. When he meets an illustrator who convinces him to tell his life story in comic book form, he finds a way to vent his frustrations and grudges. The publication of his first volume, American Splendor, is well received and while his existence continues to bore him, Harvey eventually meets his alter ego Joyce Brabner, with whom he shares a great unhappiness.
