Shoah

France, United Kingdom  ·  1985  ·  DCP  ·  Color  ·  570'  ·  o.v. French/Hebrew/German/English

An almost ten-hour long documentary, filmed between 1976 and 1981 and focused on the extermination of European Jews during World War II, Shoah does not use any archive footage, relying only on the testimony of survivors, witnesses and perpetrators. Filming on the sites of the genocide, Claude Lanzmann looks back on four stages of the massacres: the extermination campaign with gas trucks in Chelmo, the death camps in Treblinka and the one in Auschwitz-Birkenau, as well as the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto.
