Histoire(s) du cinéma: Virtual Reality: Gender Bender
haus of haraway
A VR piece combining elements of drag houses with Donna Haraway’s A Cyborg Manifesto (1984), wherein she describes the cyborg as a “rejection of the organic family”. This work compares the self-made houses/families of drag/queer culture with this notion of the cyborg.

Séamus Gallagher’s haus of haraway reveals a dazzling, interwoven space. Dancing drag queens recall drag houses and ball culture. These communities offer a safe place for any queer or transgender identities and the possibility for self-expression. The digitized avatars bend and distort, literally visualizing gender bender in the digital age, crossing borders of the physical and the virtual.Tina Sauerlaender (Radiance VR)
