Duck Soup

USA  ·  1933  ·  DCP  ·  Black and White  ·  66'  ·  o.v. English

Installed as leader of Freedonia by a besotted wealthy widow, Groucho insults the ambassador of Sylvania and starts a war. A brilliant, madcap satire of militarism with seemingly endless one-liners and gags (including the classic mirror scene), the film was not a hit at the box office but has gradually achieved cult status, hailed by many as the Marx Brothers’ finest.
