Histoire(s) du cinéma: Omaggio a Anna Karina
Lo straniero (The Stranger)
Algiers, 1935. Adapted from the Albert Camus novel, the film focuses on Meursault, a low-ranking employee whose life is routine and monotonous. When his elderly mother dies, he displays no emotion at her burial. Everything seems to leave him cold: his friend Marie’s love, the promotion offered by his boss that he refuses... His relationship with Raymond Sintès, a shady character, leads him to kill an Arab on a beach one Sunday. Condemned to the death penalty, he rejects a priest’s offer of absolution.
