Born 1981 in Zurich, Lorenz Merz studied film in Zurich and in Buenos Aires. His graduate piece Un dia y nada (2008) won several international awards, including the Pardino d’argento at the 61st Festival del film Locarno. His first feature film Cherry Pie (2013) was screened at the Festival del film Locarno, the International Film Festival Rotterdam and many others. As director of photography he won the Swiss Film Prize for Summer Games (2011) by Rolando Colla and for Chrieg (2014) by Simon Jaquemet. In 2013, he and several fellow filmmakers founded the Zurich based production company 8horses. Lorenz Merz is a member of the European Film Academy (EFA), the Swiss Film Academy (SFA) and the Swiss Cinematographer’s Society (SCS). He is currently working on his second feature film project Beasts. He works as a director, writer and cinematographer in Paris and Zurich.
