Producer (The Netherlands)
After studying Literature and Translations at the University of Amsterdam, in 1992 Ilse Hughan brought new life to the film company Fortuna Films her grandfather Jean Desmet had founded in 1909. Hughan established herself as an international sales agent and eventually she became involved in film production.
Now she is managing director of Fortuna Filmproductions in Amsterdam and president of Fundacion TyPA, a cultural foundation based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She also works for the International Film Festival Rotterdam ( IFFR) as a member of the selection committee of the Hubert Bals Fund (HBF).
(Co)-founder and up until 2015 (co)-director of the Buenos Aires Lab (BAL), the first co-production market for Latin American film projects within the framework of the BAFICI, member of the selection committee of IMCINE/Profocine Mexico, participated in and organized workshops and forums related to the development of film projects in Latin America, jury member of numerous (European) film festivals.
Fortuna Films (co)produced Los Muertos, Fantasma, Liverpool and Jauja by Lisandro Alonso and Hamaca Paraguaya by Paz Encina. All films have been selected for the Cannes Film festival (Quinzaine des Realisateurs or Un Certain Regard). The latest film she produced is La última tierra by Pablo Lamar from Paraguay. As associated producer Fortuna’s list of titles include a.o. Abrir puertas y ventanes by Milagros Mumenthaler (ARG) (Pardo d’oro, best actress and Fipresci at Locarno International Film festival 2011), Dos disparos by Martin Reijtman (ARG) and Ciudad de una provincia by Rodrigo Moreno (ARG).
