22 Shades of Kyle

From 1995 to today, some of his best credits - Vision Award Ticinomoda

Se7en (1995)

The Negotiator (1998)

The tone for F. Gary Gray’s hostage thriller is set in the opening title sequence, showcasing, via photographs, the camaraderie between Danny Roman (Samuel L. Jackson) and his fellow police officers, which will be shattered when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit.

Wild Wild West (1999)

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001)

Spider-Man (2002)

Daredevil (2003)

How do you introduce the world of a superhero who lost his eyesight as a child? You turn the city lights into braille, which then morphs into the names of the cast members. The noir-tinged Marvel adaptation is off to a moody start.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

Shane Black’s delightfully irreverent noir pastiche starts on the right note, with a credits sequence that is equal parts vintage and modern, showcasing the mood, humor and action that go hand in hand with private investigator Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.).

Superman Returns (2006)

Paying tribute to Richard Donner’s 1978 version, Bryan Singer’s film opens with John Williams’ classic Superman theme and a sequence that is both vintage (the names are written with the same font) and contemporary, showing Kal-El’s epic journey from the exploding Krypton all the way to Earth.

Pushing Daisies (2007)

Bryan Fuller’s short-lived dark comedy series didn’t use it consistently, but the opening credits sequence deftly captures the whimsical spirit of a show where life and death are determined by one man’s touch.

Iron Man (2008)

The Walking Dead - Season 1 (2010)

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

“Light the fuse”, says Ethan Hunt. And so begins yet another mission, summed up by the opening titles via glimpses of all the major locations and set pieces (albeit in scrambled order), complete with Lalo Schifrin’s unmistakable theme music.

American Horror Story: Asylum (2012)

While the first season’s credits aimed purely to disturb, the opening sequence of the second chapter in Ryan Murphy’s anthology is more playful, combining dread and cheeky humor (see the smiling statue).

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2013)

Godzilla (2014)

The new cinematic incarnation of Toho’s most famous kaiju opens on a sublimely vintage note, tying the current storyline to old-fashioned espionage (the cast names appear on redacted government files) and Godzilla’s nuclear origin, with the film’s title appearing in a cloud of ash.

Scream Queens (2015)

Another Ryan Murphy horror series, with a larger emphasis on camp and fun. The credits sequence was used sporadically, despite being the perfect encapsulation of the show’s gleeful excess.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Bryan Singer’s fourth (and, to date, last) X-Men film highlights its epic scope in a sequence that sums up three millennia of human history, paired with John Ottman’s signature theme, in order to reflect the ageless quality of the titular villain.

Feud: Bette and Joan (2017)

Two huge divas, one epic on- and off-screen rivalry. The cutthroat atmosphere of old Hollywood is rendered with stylized brutality, while also subtly hinting at the egos involved: depending on the episode, top billing goes to either Jessica Lange or Susan Sarandon.
