The Locarno Film Festival opens the doors of cinema to everyone, and for six years it has been doing so even more incisively thanks to Locarno Kids La Mobiliare, the section expressly designed for a younger audience. Quality films aimed at children and families, with the Locarno Kids Screenings program, but also workshops for students and teachers, encounters devoted to creativity and imagination... There are numerous possibilities to access cinema for those who consider it a precious educational tool as well. After the Cinema Day for high schools in the spring, now is the time for the special program of workshops and training experiences to be held during Locarno76 (August 2-12).
During the 11 days of Festival, the much-appreciated workshops for children and teenagers organized in collaboration with the event’s educational partners will return, allowing you to find out how moving images are created, how to set up a scene, how to work with lighting, photography, sound, and much more. Participation in one of these activities will also guarantee free admission to the afternoon program of the Locarno Kids Screenings. It is already possible to discover part of the program that includes the Movie & Media Labs offered by SUPSI-DFA and the Ateliers of Cinemagia (GGL) and Lac Edu. After the success of its first edition in Ticino, the Atelier Du Futur also returns: a national project reserved for the age group 13-15, born from the social commitment of La Mobiliare. On August 5-8 (Saturday-Tuesday), the 50 participants will be able to put their ideas to good use within a common framework on the theme of the future and sustainability, which will be carried out, with the help of experts and qualified personnel, in the headquarters of Villa San Quirico in Minusio. During the experience, you can learn to give shape to your ideas, and to share your impressions on highly topical themes such as consumption, digitization, and the environment, as well as art and culture. Finally, regarding the film offer, the selection of Locarno Kids Screenings will propose an overview of new animated and family films, two special showings in collaboration with Castellinaria – Festival del cinema giovane, and valuable restorations of classics aimed at children. On July 31, there will be an appetizer during the usual free Prefestival in Piazza Grande, presented by La Mobiliare, with a film for all ages, setting the tone for the rich programming of Locarno76. The complete Locarno Kids program will be announced on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, as part of the press conference for the whole Festival.
