Henry Brandt (1921-1998) was a self-taught photographer and filmmaker who made his first medium-length feature, Les Nomades du soleil (1954), in collaboration with the Ethnographic Museum of Neuchâtel. It was a prize-winner at Locarno in 1955 for its remarkable ethnographic approach. Brandt earned commissions for several documentaries, including Quand nous étions petits enfants (1961) for the Société pédagogique neuchâteloise, laureled again at Locarno with the Silver Sail award. He also made La Suisse s’interroge (1964), shown at Expo 64 in Lausanne, a set of short films taking a critical look at his native land.
