Day 3 | Today's Program

Giona A. Nazzaro's Summary

Kasia Smutniak is an actress like no other. Her presence, firm and fluid at once, tranverse European, Italian, and American cultures. It is a magnetic presence, not unlike those that could turn up in the universe of Bertrand Mandico, in competition with his new film After Blue. The Locarno Film Festival is the place where apparently distant elements intertwine and give life to new possibilities. The latter reveal themselves in the gaze of the viewers. Between a historical and expressionist blockbuster such as Hinterland and a disaster movie (but also human comedy) like Sing-Keu-Hol, between surreal comedies and the plight of the Mapuche, cinema comes as an element that not only connects, but above all brings together as yet unexplored possibilities. For this reason, cinema is more than its components and starts up energies that go beyond their mere sum total. In the end, cinema is the life we have left to live. And on the silver screen, we do the dress rehearsal.
