Pardo Weekend: Three Days with the Locarno Film Festival on the Summit of Monte Generoso

On May 5-7, 2023, the Fiore di Pietra will be tinged with yellow and black, with an offering of films and convivial occasions to be enjoyed at high altitudes.

For the first time, the Locarno Film Festival will officially climb to the top of Monte Generoso, to offer its visitors three days of cinema, culture and entertainment, in an extraordinary alpine setting. On May 5-7, the Pardo Weekend will offer a special selection of films from the latest editions of the Festival, accompanied by the experience of the ascent to the summit by train and other cinema-themed initiatives proposed within the Fiore di Pietra designed by Mario Botta.

The Pardo Night will inaugurate the weekend under the banner of some of Ticino's highlights on Friday, May 5: the usual Monte Generoso aperitif with music will feature a special formula focusing on the seventh art, thanks to background music consisting of the most popular film soundtracks of all time, and the offering of iconic cocktails such as the Vesper Martini from the James Bond franchise, the Rickey from The Great Gatsby, the Cosmo from Sex and the City, and others. In the conference room, it will be possible to sit on the famous Piazza Grande chairs and watch the continuous screening of two short films presented in Locarno: Fairplay (2022), by Zoel Aeschbacher, and Love, Dad (2021), by Diana Cam Van Nguyen.

On Saturday, May 6, the train will leave early, at 4.30 p.m. from Capolago, to allow participants to attend the screening of the feature film Last Dance by Delphine Lehericey, a title that managed to win over the 8,000 spectators in Piazza Grande, who gave it the 2022 Prix du Public UBS. Afterwards, palates will be delighted by the Pardo Dinner at the Fiore di Pietra Restaurant, which includes a delicious yellow and black menu, with live musical accompaniment.

For the younger audience, the Pardo Family Day is planned on Sunday, May 7, a day with a double screening (in the morning and in the afternoon) of the animated film Yaya and Lennie - The Walking Liberty (2021), by Alessandro Rak. Families can also take advantage of the special promotion of the Treno Famiglia package.

During the Pardo Weekend, various competitions, with prizes, will be offered for adults and children, with the possibility of winning tickets for the 76th edition of the Festival (August 2-12, 2023), while those in possession of a Festival pass or a day pass will receive a 50% discount on tickets for the Monte Generoso Railway on the dates of the event.
