As part of her thesis, Josie (26) meets Paul (50), a man who embodies Napoleon Bonaparte in historical reenactments. When she refuses his advances, he becomes increasingly threatening. As she progresses in her research, she discovers the love letters from the real Napoleon Bonaparte to his wife Josephine de Beauharnais written in 1796. Josie sees a parallel between her life and that of the soon-to-be Empress.
Reenactment is an ideal playground for the emergence of fiction and cinema. A dialogue is established, and the historical reenactment becomes a personal reenactment, a tool to stage a traumatic event (in this case, a situation of control and domination) in order to reclaim my own story with the goal of answering a question that many women* have faced in their lives: what character am I willing to play to meet the expectations of men, and at what cost?
