1,2,3 Kids: Applications Open for Workshops and the First Ticino Edition of Atelier du Futur

Locarno Kids la Mobiliare is growing with its audience: more films, more educational activities, and more workshops. Including Atelier du Futur, an existing creative project for teenagers, which is now being offered for the first time at the Locarno Film Festival.

Locarno Kids la Mobiliare, the Locarno Film Festival’s sidebar for younger audiences, is becoming a reference point in the field of cinema and audiovisual education. Now in its fifth year, the section has expanded its activities, offering quality films for children and families, workshops for students and teachers, and opportunities in the name of creativity and imagination.
After a spring characterized by the announcement of new initiatives (such as the first Giornata del cinema for high schools, and the itinerant screenings in the Locarno and Valleys region), Locarno Kids is, therefore, ready to relaunch its activities planned for the days of the event, which will take place on August 3-13, 2022.

During the 75th anniversary of the Festival, the Locarno Kids activities for young girls and boys will return: a series of workshops, ateliers, and playful and educational activities aimed at getting to know cinema up close. The activities, carried out in collaboration with the educational partners of the Festival, will allow participants to discover how moving images are made, how a scene is brought to life, how to work with lighting, cinematography, sound, and much more. Participation in one of these activities will also guarantee free admission to the afternoon showings of the Locarno Kids Screenings. It is already possible to discover part of the program, which includes the Movie & Media Labs proposed by SUPSI-DFA and the ateliers of Castellinaria and LAC edu. The other activities will be published over the next few weeks. Click here for more information and registration.

On the occasion of the 75th edition of the Festival, and after the successes of previous editions of the national project born as a result of the social engagement by la Mobiliare, Atelier du Futur will come to Ticino for the first time, in Minusio and Locarno. With this cultural mediation initiative, aimed at girls and boys aged 13-15 and free of charge, the Festival will also offer this specific age group the opportunity of a unique creative experience. On August 7-9, at Villa San Quirico in Minusio, the 50 participants will be guided by a group of experts and qualified personnel and will see their ideas come to life through a shared project on the topic of the future and sustainability. During the experience, participants will learn how to shape and represent their own ideas, and share their impressions on topical issues such as consumption, digitalization, the environment as well as art and culture. The activities also include watching films from the Locarno Kids Screenings and a magical evening in Piazza Grande. Click here for more information and registration.

Finally, concerning the cinema offer, the selection of Locarno Kids Screenings will become even richer, proposing works – mostly premieres, and in some cases in collaboration with Castellinaria - aimed at children, adolescents, and families, with particular attention to films capable of stimulating self-reflection and thoughts on the world, as well as restorations aimed at rediscovering the history of cinema. On August 2, it will be possible to have a taste of it during the usual free pre-Festival in Piazza Grande, presented by la Mobiliare, with a film for all ages. The complete program of screenings will instead be announced on July 6, during the press conference of the Locarno Film Festival.

Updates on the program of the various initiatives will be available on the official website of the Locarno Film Festival.
