Born in the US to Lao refugees, Mattie was raised in Los Angeles but returned to Laos. In 2012, she directed her first film Chanthaly. Her second film was later selected as Laos first official submission for the Foreign Language Film Award at the 90th Academy Awards. Mattie Do is Laos’ first and only female filmmaker.
