Alex, a lonely 22-year old raised by the Internet, recently failed to rob the supermarket he was just fired from. As the heist was quickly shut down by employees, a picture was taken and became viral online. To his own surprise, Alex is released on bail. He has become a meme overnight and caught the attention of the followers of Zlander, an intriguing streamer who’s almost too ravishing to be real. All Alex wanted was to leave this city to meet with his Internet lover, but now that this pathetic online fame haunts him, he has to disappear from the web! Zlander promises she’ll be able to get rid of all data surrounding Alex if he helps with her planned crypto money heist. But when the Internet goes down, Alex, who only knew virtual love until then, will have to express feelings in real life for the first time.
Crypto Lover is a tribute to all the adventures we experience online and how they influence real life. It is hybrid in form, as the web will be used as a narrative and aesthetic tool to capture the zeitgeist of my generation's struggle to have feelings in real life when we only learned to love online.
