Naomi Pacifique is a Swiss-Dutch artist. She works across filmmaking, music, visual arts and poetry. Across the arts, her work interests itself in intimacy and the spaces found there to discover and reinvent both oneself and the environment one is surrounded by. After growing up in Lausanne, Switzerland, Naomi graduated from Oxford University with an Mst in Creative Writing and from the London Film School with an MA in Filmmaking.
Her graduation film, after a room, was awarded the Pardino d’Argento Swiss Life at Locarno74, among other awards. It also screened in competition at San Sebastian Film Festival and BAFICI. In 2020, the short film which she produced, and worked on as an assistant director, Filipiñana, was awarded the Silver Bear Shorts Jury Prize at the 70th Berlinale.
2018 Falling Asleep
2021 after a room
Production: Idle Eye
Naomi’s partner returns from a work trip where he has gotten intimate with someone else. He reveals to her that he will return to monogamy, with his new partner. Confronted with the harsher realities of non-monogamous relationships, Naomi heads out into the streets of Amsterdam for a night of diverse intimacies, to remember why she committed to this kind of relationship structure in the first place.
With 'after the night, the night' I want to explore possibilities for experiencing intimacy. I want to play with monogamy as a social structure, which has framed a large part of our intimate lives. I want to dive into the spaces that exist for vulnerability, humility and empathy inside of non-monogamy.
